In 2008 II.I was charged with a quick charrette for an expansion of a 1980’s Glendale mansion to gain a library, master bedroom, fitness, sauna and semi-enclosed lounge area facing the existing pool. The design follows the directives, expanding in a ribbon the existing structures with a hybrid solution upstairs area including a translucent library wall to shield from neighbors and a master bedroom lounge-scape with an extension to the hilly rear yard in form of a bridge. Downstairs is connected with a simple
staircase and contains an sliding glass wall system that allows to use a jacuzzi scape either for indoors or outdoors. The Sauna is tucked into the back, partially as structural support. The project also includes a 5’ extension of the rear facade in form of a transparent, architecturally articulated concourse.
Formally the project is muted playing off of a strong graphic articulation of the used materials.
